How We Got Started!
Our restaurant, Jhon’s Place, was founded by the late John Snopek, and his wife Joanne Coviello Snopek. John was a hard working entrepreneur who started and ran several small retail establishments in Scranton. He had a dream to open a restaurant for his son John Jr. In March of 1994, John’s dream was realized when he, Joanne, and John Jr. opened Jhon’s Place, a restaurant specializing in Italian cuisine. To this day, we are still a family owned restaurant, operated by Joanne as the General Manager and John Jr. as the Executive Chef.
The Jhon’s Place philosophy about food is a simple one, to provide the best. This means the finest grades of meat, the freshest produce, fish, and seafood, and the highest quality for all other ingredients going into a Jhon’s Place menu item. Our philosophy has kept us one of the outstanding restaurants in the area. Everything from the ravioli, gnocchi, and meatballs, to the sauce, soups and stocks are made from scratch. This has made for a faithful and growing Jhon’s Place clientele.
After five years in the restaurant business, Jhon’s Place began a catering operation to meet the growing demand for our great tasting food at business and private events. We regularly cater to companies such as PPL, Morgan Stanley, and Prudential at Montage Mountain, and numerous private events.
A highly successful Jhon’s Place has led us to the need for more dining space. So, in October 2007, we left our original location in Scranton, and moved to Old Forge. The new location is called Jhon’s Place Ristorante Italiano! There are two seating levels. On the main level, you will find the Luna Rossa Room, which contains the restaurant, and the Luna Rosa Lounge. Together they can accommodate up to 100 guests. On the lower-level, we have the Bella Sera Room, which is our banquet facility, with seating for up to 150 guests.
The new restaurant is ultra contemporary on the inside, and Mediterranean traditional on the outside with archways and stucco and warmth to welcome you.
The cuisine is Italian. The atmosphere is fine dining!

See, be seen, help prevent blindness
Dr. Rebecca Schoonover is inviting the public to “see and be seen Saturday,” when she conducts Cocktails for a Cause, an annual fundraiser supporting blindness research and honoring her late friend and colleague, optometrist Dr. Heather Baker Romano.
Cocktails for a Cause will be held at Jhon’s Place, 112 S. Main St., Old Forge, from 7 to 10 p.m.
A $40 donation entitles guests to samplings from area restaurants and open bar including, Rebecca reports, “martinis direct from New York City, Miami and Boston.”
Proceeds benefit Research to Prevent Blindness, a supporter of eye research directed at the prevention, treatment and eradication of all diseases that threaten vision.
“My grandmother, Sophie Kropiewnicki, was legally blind from macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. To date, there are no cures for these eye diseases — just treatments that try to prevent further loss of vision,” Rebecca said. “Fundraiser proceeds are donated to RPB in honor of my late friend Dr. Heather Baker Romano. Heather was an optometrist, friend and mother whose passion for helping people will be continued through the advancement of vision research.”
